FAIR FOOD EVENT HAPPENING AGAIN THIS WEEKEND!

OCTOBER 9, 10, AND 11
10/08/2020

Second chance to get your annual fair food fix—this weekend!

(DOSWELL, October 6, 2020)—The State Fair of Virginia drive-in fair food event will be back for a second helping this weekend.

From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 9-11 at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County, Virginians will have the opportunity to buy foods and beverages from more than a dozen State Fair vendors.

“The first drive-in fair food event was such a hit that we wanted to give more people another opportunity,” said Marlene Jolliffe, the fair’s executive director. “We may not have been able to hold the fair, but these mini festivals will help us give people their fill of fair food.”

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the State Fair scholarship program.

There is no admission or parking fee, but to ensure compliance with current capacity guidelines, guests are asked to select a two-hour time slot to visit the event, and each block is limited to 750 cars. Attendees may print or download a time slot voucher at statefairva.org/p/about/fair-food-weekend---drive-in-food-event---faq. Guests should enter through Gate 3 off state Route 30, then walk to the nearby fair food area.

Visitors can load up on kettle corn, cotton candy, elephant ears, funnel cakes, other deep-fried sweets or hand-made ice cream.

Nostalgic for a turkey leg? Turkey legs, corndogs and burgers will be available, along with barbecue, Greek food, Italian sausages and Mexican fare such as quesadillas, burritos and loaded nachos. All food is intended to be enjoyed at home or eaten in your car.

Vendors will be spaced apart for social distancing, and guests will be asked to wear masks when ordering and picking up food, and to stay 6 feet from others. Hand sanitizer stations will be provided, and visitors are asked to wear masks when in a restroom. View all the guidelines at StateFairVa.org.

The event will be held rain or shine, unless there is lightning or high winds.

Since 2013 the State Fair has awarded 1,484 scholarships and has awarded over $550,000 to support youth education. The fair offers youth more than $80,000 each year in scholarship funds through 4-H, FFA and vocational competitions and specific equine, fine arts and horticulture competitions.

The State Fair of Virginia is held each fall at its permanent home at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County and attracts 250,000 fairgoers. It will be held Sept. 24-Oct. 3, 2021. The event celebrates the best of Virginia’s past, present and future through scholarship initiatives, creative programming and a focus on the commonwealth’s agriculture and natural resources industries.
